Peckett 1174
was originally Mt Morgan Mines No.5, and more recently Mt Isa Mines Co Ltd
No.2. It was out of use at Mt Isa by 1954. Peckett
1174 was initially preserved at Barkly Highway State School, Soldiers Hill,
Mount Isa. In 1992 it was sold to a private collector and transported south
to suburban Bayswater, Melbourne. In August
2009, both Peckett 1174 / Mt Morgan Mines No.5 and sister Peckett 1069 / Mt
Morgan Mines No.4 became available for sale. They were sold to a collector
and moved to a private location in South-East Queensland. Peckett
1174 / Mt Morgan Mines No.5 and Peckett 1069 / Mt Morgan Mines No.4 have since
been acquired by the Atherton - Herberton Historic Railway Inc, with Peckett
1174 delivered to their Herberton base on 7 April 2015. The Atherton –
Herberton Historic Railway Inc website includes photographs of these two
locomotives arriving at Herberton. UPDATE: The Atherton-Herberton Historic
Railway Inc recently completed restoration of sister Peckett b/n 1069 of 1905 and their
website indicates that Peckett 1174 is now being dismantled for overhaul,
with the aim that it will join its older twin in steam. |
