Updates & Contributions

Australiansteam.com is updated as the webmaster’s time, travels & research opportunities permit.

As the cliché goes, Australia really IS a big country, so I can’t rely

on my own travels to gather all the input needed for this site.

Reader contributions of news and photographs are always welcome.

Please email contributions to:

Photo format:

When emailing photo contributions, would you please:

·         Either send large, high resolution photo files; or if re-sizing a photo for publishing on the website, please size to 750 pixels wide with a file size of approximately 400Kb.

·         Please email me identifying details of the locomotive, location and date.

·         Include your name, so that I can credit the photographer appropriately.

·         Please do not submit other photographers’ work, unless you have their explicit approval.

Photos wanted:

I would particularly appreciate contributions of the following:

·         3801 – Photos of this locomotive when running in black livery with red whiskers around 1999.

·         5908 & 5916 – Photos of these two when in use as stationary boilers at Broadmeadow and Eveleigh.

·         No.4 (Fowler 16339 of 1925), formerly operable at the Goulburn Steam Museum in the 1980’s and currently under restoration at a sawmill site / workshop in Daylesford, Victoria.

·         Shay No.2 (Lima 2576 of 1912) stored dismantled in the Melbourne suburbs.

·         The remains of Krauss 6927 which was retrieved from Corrimal Colliery for preservation by a Sydney enthusiast / collector in 1971 and stored at the Marsden Museum of Historic Engines, Goulburn NSW from 12/71 to 3/74.  Also wanted are photos of (incomplete) locomotives Krauss 2589, Krauss 6611 & Maffei 3677 which are held by the same collector.   I believe these four locos were at Gymea, Sydney during the 1980’s & 1990’s, more recently moving to the North-East of Victoria.

·         Ivy (Fowler 15947 of 1922), ex-Mossman Mill, at a private site in the Hunter Valley.

·         Fowler 20277 of 1934, ex-Marian Mill, privately owned at Mirani, west of Mackay.

·         Proserpine Mill No.8 (Perry 8403.39.1 of 1939) which is privately owned at Romsey, Victoria, together with Proserpine Mill No.9 "Tilly” (Thomas Green & Co b/n 219 of 1895).  These two locomotives were in private preservation at Strathewen, Victoria, in 1975.  I understand that they have since been relocated to Romsey, Victoria.

·         Mulgrave Mill No.9 (Decauville 454 of 1906) which is privately owned at Tynong North, Victoria.

·         Macknade Mill No.1 (Hudswell Clarke b/n 1653 of 1934).  I understand this locomotive is privately owned at Jungara, near Cairns.

Nb. Where a locomotive is privately owned and kept on private property, I do not published the owner's name & address, or the specific location of the locomotive, in order to maintain the owner's privacy.
