This
handsome little industrial locomotive was originally Mt Morgan Mines No.4.
It later became Mt Isa Mines Co Ltd No.1, where it was out of use by 1955.
Peckett
1069 was initially preserved at St Joseph's Convent School, Mount Isa.
Around 1982 it was sold to a private collector and transported to
Spotswood, Melbourne. In 1989 it was relocated to suburban Bayswater,
Melbourne.
In
August 2009, both Peckett 1069 / Mt Morgan Mines No.4 and sister Peckett
1174 / Mt Morgan Mines No.5 became available for sale. They were sold to a
collector and moved to a private location in South-East Queensland.
Peckett
1069 / Mt Morgan Mines No.4 and Peckett 1174 / Mt Morgan Mines No.5 have
since been acquired by the Atherton - Herberton Historic Railway Inc, with
Peckett 1069 delivered to their Herberton base on 18 May 2015. The website
for the Atherton – Herberton Historic Railway Inc includes photographs of
these two locomotives arriving at Herberton. I understand it is intended to
eventually restore both locos to running condition.
UPDATE:
The
Atherton-Herberton
Historic Railway Inc completed restoration of Peckett 1069 in late
2022; photos show to loco immaculately presented with polished brasswork
and spotless lined green livery. A recent ABC News article includes video
of the loco in operation:
