This
handsome loco is one of 19 steam engines built for various Australian sugar
mills by Adelaide company Perry Engineering Co. Ltd. Perry also built many larger
locomotives for various Australian state government railways and civil engineering
/ construction projects. The Perry-built cane locos have fared well in preservation,
with 16 surviving examples listed on this site. This
locomotive was constructed in 1948 for the Qunaba Mill, Bundaberg where it
was known as No.3 ‘Flash’. Following
retirement, No.3 'Flash' was stored at the Queensland Museum, Brisbane until
moved to the new ‘The Workshops’ railway museum at the former Ipswich Railway
Workshops on 25 September 2001. It is now displayed within the exhibits hall. |
