No. 3 John Fowler & Co. Ltd. b/n 7607 of 1896 |
This photo is kindly provided by Dave Jones and shows No. 3 (numbered as 4) plinthed under a weather roof at the Childers town museum on 9 March 2009. |
This locomotive was built by John Fowler & Co. Ltd. of Leeds as their Builder's No. 7607 of 1896, and became No. 3 on the roster of the Isis Mill, Cordalba.(a) In preservation this locomotive has moved around with a number of owners; I believe it was at Moama, NSW for some years. In 1983 it moved to Western Sydney (c), where it was advertised for sale in April 2004.(b)
More recently this locomotive was acquired for preservation and display at Childers, and moved to the Childers town museum in late 2007 or early 2008. It is now statically restored and displayed under a weather roof in company with Isis Mill No.6 (Fowler 13325 of 1912) and three whole-stick sugar cane wagons. (c) (It bears the number 4 for reasons unknown to me; further information on this point is welcome.)
