This
locomotive is a product of the well-known Leeds manufacturer of road and rail
steam machinery, John Fowler & Co. Ltd. It was last used by Isis Mill,
Cordalba, where it was No.3 on the roster. Isis Mill No.3
had been plinthed in a Maryborough park until 1983, when moved to a local car
wrecking yard 'Parky's Parts'. After a sojourn
of nearly 20 years, it was reported in January 2002 as purchased by the Bauple
Historical Society for incorporation into an historical exhibit in the town
of Bauple, at the location of the former Mt Bauple sugar mill. My visit
to Bauple on 28 January 2004 found No.3 displayed at the Bauple museum and
apparently undergoing cosmetic repair. A simple but unauthentic cab had been mocked
up, and the side tanks were yet to be replaced. Presumably the original platework
was heavily corroded and judged to be beyond salvage. |
