Tender Tank Adapted for farm use |
This old steam locomotive tender tank was found in farm use as a molasses storage.
Many of the steam loco fittings remain in place, such as wooden hungry boards atop the coal space and a brass footplate water cock below the shovel plate.
Over the years I have seen a number of former steam locomotive tender tanks in use on farm properties, particularly in Victoria. Ken McHugh has provided this interesting photo of an ex-Queensland Government Railways example; apparently the owner purchased it from scrap yard in early 1970's as he required a tank to store molasses. He went to the scrap yard looking for a regular tank and bought this home! (There were no visible markings to indicate which locomotive this tank had come from.)
